The 1970s

It started with keeping people warm

The Monahan family has been in the fire business since the early 1970s. When solid fuel was the only thing standing between an Irish family and a freezing house, the Monahans made sure it got there. Early mornings, late nights, seven days a week.

It wasn't glamorous. But it built something no amount of marketing can fake: a reputation. Father to son. Eamon Monahan to Steven Monahan. The same question every generation: what else can we do for the people who trust us?

Growing Up

From Fuel Merchants to Trusted Irish Brand

Fuel stayed at the heart, but the Monahans saw Irish families moving outdoors. So Monahan's grew: outdoor living, garden supplies, nationwide delivery from a one-acre site in Maynooth, Co. Kildare.

But one product kept pulling Steven back. One obsession that felt like the natural next step for a family that had spent 50 years mastering fire.

"When I look at a kamado it just stands tall, like it's own powerhouse."

The Mission

The Obsession That Wouldn't Go Away

Steven knew kamados were the best way to cook. No question. But the good ones were mad money. The cheaper ones cut corners everywhere: flimsy trolleys, low-grade hardware, none of the details that make a kamado special.

Then came the discovery that really got under his skin. Every single kamado brand in Ireland was based outside the country. Just names on boxes. And most of them outsourced manufacturing to the same factories in Asia.

That wasn't an idea. It was a mission. Why can't we do the same? Of course we can.

  • 01 Find the Factory

Track down the manufacturing plants in Asia where the big-name kamado brands outsource production. See them for yourself.

  • 02 Walk the Floor

Eleven days on the ground. Inspecting ceramic, testing hardware, meeting the people behind the process. No shortcuts.

  • 03 Come Home

One answer: it can be done. Time to gather the family, light a fire, open a beer, and figure out the name.

The product

Built for Real Cooking

Everything Steven couldn't find when he went looking. Mullite ceramic rated to 1000°C. Cast iron vents. A 6mm stainless steel cooking grid. Durable powder-coated steel stand. Bamboo side tables.

It sears at 400°C. Smokes for 12 hours. Bakes pizza in minutes. And comes with something international brands can't offer: an Irish team who actually use the product and answer the phone.
